
The Philadelphia Dance Company, popularly known as Philadanco,
is celebrating its 37th anniversary in 2007. Founded in 1970 by Joan Myers
Brown, the company has grown from a grass roots organization to a professional
dance company ranked among the best modern dance troupes in the country.
The Company has performed at Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, the
Clark Center, the Joyce and the Delacorte in New York City as well as
major venues throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.
Philadanco combines its dance training programs with innovative support
systems and opportunities previously non-existent for local dancers. Workshops,
low-cost master classes, free professional level classes and dancewear
are a few of the benefits offered to members of the Philadanco programs.
In addition, Philadanco has conducted lecture demonstrations for Young
Audiences, Inc. and the Institute for Arts in Education. The Company has
performed in schools and community centers around the Delaware Valley
and across the nation. Philadanco has the 1st artist housing created for its dancers. Philadanco is also Resident Company at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
