Community College of Philadelphia

Established in 1964, Community College of Philadelphia is the city's largest institution of higher education, offering more than 70 associate degree and certificate programs in the arts, business, the sciences, engineering, humanities, and social and human services.

Community College of Philadelphia is dedicated to its 42,000 students and to the enrichment of the Philadelphia area. While preparing students for the workplace, a different career, or for baccalaureate programs, the College instills the benefits of culture, diversity, and citizenship and teaches students about the benefits of giving back to their communities.

Always active in the educational and economic arena, the College has built the Center for Business and Industry in order for local employers to keep their workforce educated and competitive. The College has also established scholarships, in cooperation with many businesses and organizations, enabling their employees to earn associate degrees or take classes at Community College of Philadelphia.

Sixty-eight percent of the College's graduates continue their education at a four-year institution. To facilitate this process, the College has developed transfer agreements with several area schools and offers special dual admission opportunities.

Community College of Philadelphia offers the convenience of several locations - the main campus at 1700 Spring Garden Street, three regional centers, and over 30 neighborhood sites throughout Philadelphia. Besides the accessible setting of the main campus, which is close to Center City, the site offers visitors a bit of history as well. In the late 1600's, one of William Penn's manors stood on the grounds. In 1901, the Mint Building was erected to serve as the new home of the Philadelphia Mint. The Mint building now houses classrooms and administrative offices. The building displays the façade of a Roman temple, with Ionic columns leading to the lobby and vaulted ceiling, which at one time was adorned by seven Tiffany glass mosaics depicting ancient Roman methods of coinage. Marble finishings and tile mosaics still ornament the lobby.
