The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts
The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts,
located on the Avenue of the Arts at 736-38 South Broad Street, is often
referred to as "The House That Jazz Built." As an outgrowth
of the former Black Musician's Union, the Local 274 American Federation
of Musicians originally founded in 1935, the Philadelphia Clef Club has
functioned as a non-profit organization since 1983 whose mission is to
perform, preserve, perpetuate and promote the art of jazz.

The Philadelphia Clef Club is also a Lila Wallace Readers Digest National
Jazz Network Site and presents a spring and fall season of jazz performances,
workshops and residencies. The Clef Club will host several distinguished
Artists-in-Residence this spring including Bassist Larry Ridley, Mid-Atlantic
Arts Foundation "Living Legacy Awardee," saxophonist Oliver
Lake, saxophonist Makonde McIntyre and jazz hip-hop workshops, all through
The Coltrane Project.

The Clef Club also has an on-going Jazz Education Program featuring private
instruction, ensemble classes and the Clef Club Youth Ensemble.
