Who: The Avenue of the Arts, Inc (AAI) is planning its third annual Experience the Avenue Event

What: Experience the Avenue 2005 is an event designed to showcase the attributes of the Avenue of the Arts and provide funding for AAI operations. Last year, our event was a great success, attracting patrons from the city, the surrounding counties and a few out-of-towners. The event encourages patrons to stroll along the Avenue and experience:

  • Fabulous hors d’oeuvres and special cocktail offers from participating Avenue restaurants, such as Bliss and Zanzibar Blue
  • New this year! Special exhibit at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts* • Entertainment from local musicians
  • Wine Tasting
  • Celebrity Judges at the Cocktail Tasting, as well as the announcement of Signature Avenue Cocktail
  • Opportunity to win great raffle prizes

When: Friday, October 14, 2005 from 5:30– 9:30pm Where: AAI (designated locations) “Kick-off” at The Ritz Carlton

Why: To promote AAI as a wonderful arts and entertainment district that features shopping, dining, entertainment, art, culture and commerce. This event will also serve as an annual fund-raiser for AAI.

Cost: $50.00 pp (10% discount for AAI members/ groups of 10 or more)

*Special: Access to the new Ellen Harvey exhibit “Mirror,” part of Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts’ 200th anniversary season, is available with Experience the Avenue 2005 VIP tickets!

Brooklyn artist Ellen Harvey (recipient of the Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative Award) will use video projection, faux-finishing techniques, and mirrors hung salon-style in a new, site-specific installation. Mirror, is a stunning contemporary installation for the second floor rotunda gallery of Pennsylvania Academy’s 1876 historic landmark building, addressing its high Victorian Gothic architecture, aspects of works in the collection and the pedagogical tradition of copying art.
