Avenue of the Arts Annual Stroll Moves Inside
for An Evening of Art, Music, Food, and Thanks

Annual “Experience the Avenue” stroll
at the Union League of Philadelphia this year

Philadelphia, PA – November 21, 2006 -- For the past few years, Avenue of the Arts, Inc (AAI) has held its annual event “Experience the Avenue,” stroll at a variety of venues along the Avenue, to allow guests to enjoy the many varied restaurants, theaters, galleries and other cultural institutions that are located on the Avenue.  This year, however, AAI’s “Experience the Avenue” will be a bit different: instead of bringing the guests to the experience, the experience will be brought to them.

The site of this year’s event is at one of the Avenue’s most venerable institutions: The Union League of Philadelphia.   This by-invitation-only event is being held on Tuesday, November 28 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and will feature live music, dance, poetry and a live art demonstration that will bring the cosmopolitan feel of the Avenue indoors for all to enjoy.

Some of the highlights of the event include State Representative Dwight Evans presentation of a check to AAI, supporting its efforts to revitalize and promote Broad Street as Philadelphia’s premier arts and entertainment District.  Bluecoat Gin and Pacific Wine Partners will be on hand to offer specialty drinks and a variety of wines. There will also be a contest in which photos of different Avenue buildings will be displayed and guests must identify the buildings in order to win a gift certificate from Rembrandt’s Restaurant.  No guest will go away empty handed, thanks to gift bags generously filled by some of the event sponsors, such as Bonte, L’Occitane and Naked Chocolate.

“Instead of the stroll this year we decided to host an event that allows guests to stay in one location,” said Karen Lewis, AAI’s Executive Director.  “But mostly, the event is being held to honor all the people who help support the Avenue’s mission year after year.  The Avenue is truly one of the best art districts in the country and we want to share it with as many people as possible.”

As part of the celebration, a member of AAI’s Board of Directors, Derek Gillman, former President at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, now the new President of the Barnes Foundation will be presented with a gift from Tiffany & Company by AAI’s Chairperson the Honorable Majorie O. Rendell, a judge on the US Court of Appeals.  Mirsky and Associates will also be honored during the event for their generous redesign of AAI’s website, which will be unveiled at the event.

Avenue of the Arts, Inc. is an independent non-profit organization founded in 1993 by the City of Philadelphia, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and supported by public and private funds.  Within the last decade, AAI has overseen the transformation of North and South Broad Street into a world-class cultural and entertainment destination, through the development of performance, visual and educational facilities.
