Avenue of the Arts, Inc. Kicks Off
Joy to the World Avenue of the Arts Celebration
with 4th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
Philadelphia, PA – November 20, 2002 -- 18 feet of holiday
cheer will light up the Avenue of the Arts at the 4th Annual Tree
Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 6, 2002 at 5:30 p.m.,
in front of the DoubleTree Hotel at Broad and Locust Streets. The
18-foot high spruce, sparkling with more than 1,000 lights, will be lit
by Sheela Allen-Stephens of NBC 10, the official tree
lighter for the Avenue of the Arts, Inc. (AAI) celebration.
Delight your senses with a medley of musical artists, performers, savory
snacks and of course, the spectacular lighting of the AAI tree. B101 Radio
will enchant children with face painting and fun giveaways, handed out
by their mascot, Buzzbee. Hear the joyous sounds of choirs from
the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, the University of the Arts, The University of Pennsylvania
Glee Club and the fabulous Salvation Army Quartet. Dreams
will come true when children shake hands with the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Mouse King and Sugarplum Fairy from The Nutcracker. The aroma
of roasted chestnuts will perfume the air as spectators savor delicious
apple cider, homemade cookies and roasted chestnuts, courtesy of the DoubleTree
Hotel.
Share the spirit of the season and bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift
to the tree lighting ceremony, which has been designated an official drop-off
location for Toys for Kids, sponsored by B101 radio, Salvation
Army and NBC 10. Toys collected at the event will be distributed to youth
throughout the region.
December promises to be an exciting month on the Avenue of the Arts.
AAI invites you to celebrate this magical Holiday Season as a whole "fun-filled"
