North Public Outreach

Goals and Objectives

The goal of Avenue of the Arts, Inc.'s (AAI) Public Outreach and Advocacy Project is to support the future economic development and revitalization of Avenue of the Arts North. In order to achieve this goal, AAI considered it necessary to develop and implement an outreach and advocacy strategy crafted by the desires and needs of the community representing Avenue North.

Findings

After conducting stakeholder interviews and convening outreach meetings at strategic locations along Avenue of the Arts North, AAI determined advocacy priorities and strategy areas based on the active stakeholder participation. This information aided AAI in establishing an advocacy and outreach strategy in order to implement early action initiatives.

  • Transportation
  • Vacant buildings
  • Encouraging a Diverse Audience

Strategy Areas:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Historic Preservation
  • Visual Aesthetics
  • Mixed Use Development

Committees

AAI determined that a committee structure would be an effective approach to address specific advocacy issues. The three Avenue of the Arts North Committees are as follows:

  • Litter Prevention
  • Communications
  • Community Involvement

Conclusions

The series of public outreach and advocacy meetings documented a high level of interest in the future development and revitalization of the Avenue of the Arts North. The stakeholder meetings proved that there would be continued support of AAI's role as an advocate for such development and as coordinator of stakeholder involvement. AAI demonstrated an ability to convene a large number of stakeholders with diverse interests, encourage partnerships and build trust in the public outreach process and in the development of Avenue of the Arts North. Future success will be dependent on continuing the efforts that have been implemented as a result of the beginning of the Avenue of the Arts North Public Outreach and Outreach and Advocacy Project.
